What’s in YOUR way?
I took a decision to go off social media for a few months. People do all sorts of detoxing exercises and this was mine. It stemmed from the fact that over a course of time which stemmed over a period of years I would find myself scrolling down endlessly and repeatedly out of habit, liking, laughing, commenting and ‘hmm’ing’ at times when I should have been doing something which would be considered more productive, and all this on the background of what I consider an overly jam-packed schedule.
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against social media at all, I have been a dedicated user like for…forever but I noticed that as more responsibility landed on my table I had less and less time on my hands and at some point I just realised something had to give.
The stint proved productive, I was amazed that I didn’t feel like I was missing anything, after a month I had so adjusted that I was actually surprised and in a strange way almost relieved. I think I have managed now after several months to come back in a sensible way, breaking the cycle of what seems now to have been a not -so-subtle addiction.
The New Year crept upon me.
I started to think of other things that may have weighed me down, taken up my time, and stopped me from being and doing ‘me’ over the past few months. Yes, I say weighed me down because anything that is not adding to me or helping me fulfil my vision, encouraging me to do so or preventing me from doing so is a weight.
We don’t have to evaluate ourselves only at the beginning of the year, (although this is a good time to do so as it presents itself as a platform for a fresh start), the truth is, we can evaluate ourselves anytime, we can evaluate ourselves daily, and we can even evaluate ourselves right now!
Have you identified what could be hindering you? It may be a person, activity, thing or thought but whatever it is, now is a good time to review 3 things
How is this hindering me?
Why is it hindering me?
What can I do about it?
Hebrews 12:1 New International Version (NIV)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
As you strive to have a joyful life always remember to …
