Thinking About My First True Love
I met Him on a hospital ward when I was 19. This time I was the patient. I had suffered a bad bout of malaria and was on the road to recovery. I lay huddled up on my bed with my medical books surrounding me, not because I had been studying them, but because lying around me they served as ornaments, placed strategically in a bid to let the doctors and nurses know that I was a medical student without having to make a verbal announcement. It was a desperate means of hopefully gaining some respect from them or at least getting treated like a colleague. How funny! How pathetic ‘we’ were in those early days!
And so there I was, minding my business and not thinking of anything in particular when He spoke to me.
He was ever so gentle, His voice so soft and ever so calm and yet I had no doubt He was speaking to me because I could hear Him clearly…….
Love intrigues us, excites us, interests us and propels us. We yearn to receive it, thrive on the knowledge of having it, build ourselves on giving it, and eagerly want to hear about it. (That’s why you’re still reading this!)
It controls us, covers a multitude of sins, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.
Love never fails.
You’re probably hoping I was going to open up to you about someone who caught my teenage heart, someone imprinted in my mind, someone I can’t forget …….
And you’re right…
That day on that hospital bed the most important relationship of my life began. I met Jesus. The Holy Spirit literally spoke to my heart and told me to accept Christ. I couldn’t make out why He chose that particular day or why He came to me Himself but I do know this, He has been with me ever since. He loves unconditionally and always. He is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and 366 days in leap years but never needs a holiday, some space or a break.
He is slow to anger, faithful and just to forgive. He has me tattooed on the palm of His hand. He says I should open up my mouth wide and He will fill it with good things. He knows my needs and most especially is able to supply them all!
This love never waxes or wanes. Never grows cold or old, is not a fair weather emotion, does not end because I did or did not do something, and believe me I have done and not done a lot of things! My mistakes, errors and flaws do not affect it, distance or time are no barriers. It doesn’t give up.
Romans 8 vs 38 -39 (KJV) says,
‘For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord’.
He is a Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby, Teacher and Reminder. (John 14 vs 26- AMP).
He said in His word that He is a Father, a Brother, a Husband, and a Friend and yet He is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords and Master and God of everything.
He said even if your mother forgets you, He will not.
A very present help in the time of need.
His love is a banner over us and is everlasting and steadfast.
All He wants is a relationship with us.
As we put Him first, everything else will fall in to place.
This Valentine’s Day, look no further, all you need is right where you are ………
‘But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.’
Matthew 6 vs 33 (KJV)
Here’s a special Valentine’s message for you.
The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying,
“Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee”.
(Jeremiah 31 vs 3 NKJV).
I might tell you about my second true love another day……….
Have a great Valentine’s Day and
Be Encouraged Always.
