Let it bake

I really like baking. There is something about mixing all the ingredients into a cake mix and then pouring something so raw into a pan and watching it rise that is not only intriguing but also on its own (in a strange way) ‘scrumptious’. The smell that fills the house is always so lovely, so welcoming, the icing smells good too, so much so that I must confess that the vanilla frosting fragrance is my best Yankee candle scent.
Smaller cakes bake quicker and larger cakes can take longer , different cakes bake better at different temperatures but a common thing is that after you have done all the measuring , cracking, whisking and mixing, while the cake is in the oven, all you can do is wait.
And so it is with any circumstance……
You see, many a cake baker has been there, especially in their early days. The gorgeous aroma fills the house, the cake seems to have risen and in eager anticipation you open the oven door just to find out that…. oops! The middle is not ready yet! Closing the oven door as gently as you can you still end up with a cake with a collapsed centre!
You see, as eager as we may be, when it is time to wait…. It is just that…A time to wait.

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7 ESV

Just as the cake is forming nicely and coming together after all we have done to prepare it -so God is working things out for us as we stand. Standing does not necessarily mean standing in front of the oven and starring! As the cake bakes many people tidy the mess, do the dishes, get the cake decorations ready or even plan for the party, but whatever we choose to do our going back to check on the cake a hundred times does not make it bake any faster.

Is it a time in your life that you need to stand? Have you done all that you know how and now need to make that important decision of really handing it over to God by putting your cake in the oven?
Are you getting anxious and opening your oven too many times?

Therefore take up the whole armour of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Ephesians 6:13-14 ESV

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 ESV

Be Encouraged
